Often map titles have important information in them that give important context to the contents of the map, and right now they are kind of buried in the URL -- there's no visibility of the map title itself right next to the map content as it is in Compendium itself. We could have this be an option, on by default, to have the very top of the HTML page be the map title in a (user-specifiable) nice bold font like our map titles are in Compendium. (this is another thing that has bothered me for a while but I never got around to reporting it)
Temporary workaround would be to add a node at the top of your maps with no image (so just text), with the title of the map, so that it looka like a title in the map graphic when you export to the Web.
I noticed that the map titles now appear on the web map exports. That is good -- but only as an option. I didn't see any way to turn them off or change their appearance. They can be completely at odds with the rest of the map's appearance. See for example http://kmi.open.ac.uk/people/selvin/amesworkshop/Instructions_and_Exa_19216811011177156531930.html and the submaps. After 1.5.2, this is now a bug since the original feature request said "we could have this be an option, on by default, to have the very top of the HTML page be the map title in a (user-specifiable) nice bold font like our map titles are in Compendium."
I have closed that feature request as it was not completed. The ability to turn off Map titles on Web Maps export will be added for the next release.
1.5.3 alpha 3 now has the option to turn off map titles
