Language Exchange Header

Using this Interface Language File Exchange

This area is for sharing Compendium interface language files. On the left hand side you will see a menu. If you are not logged in you will only have Browse Language Files available. If you are logged in you will also have access to the Share Language Files option.

Browse Language Files lists any language files that have been uploaded to this exchange.

You can download a zip file of the interface language files which you can then use in Compendium. Once downloaded you need to unzip the language files into:

<compendium home dir>/System/resources/Languages

Then you will need to start/restart Compendium and the new Language files will take affect if appropriate to your locale.

Share Language Files takes you to a page where you can upload a set of language files you want to share. This area is your upload management area. It will always list the language file sets you have uploaded and also it will allow you to edit the title and description, or delete a set you have uploaded.

The upload itself should consist of a zip file of the language folder you want to share, even if you have only translated one or more files for that language.

Inside the zip you should have a folder whose name is the two letter abbreviation for the language you are providing a translation for. These codes are specified by the ISO 639 standard, e.g.

Language Code Language
en English
fr French
it Italian
de German

Inside this folder you should have the Compendium language files containing the translations you have made. The file names must adhere to the following format where language is defined by ISO 639:

· baseName_language.properties

E.g. menus.properties should become menus_it.properties if inside a folder called it and providing an Italian translation of the menus.

Inside any given properties files, each resource is set up as a key/value pair, in the form key=value. You must only change the value, NEVER the key.

If you have any issues or problems please email: kmi-compendium@open.ac.uk

Thanks you.
